Steam deck upgrade 1: Complete.
Thoughts:
- The entire OLED deck uses a single screw type/size. (Torx t6.) That's pretty awesome.
- The eye towards repairability, as much as a device like this *can* be repaired, is obvious. The hardest part of accessing the device was working one of the frustratingly flimsy ifixit guitar picks between the shell halves to pop it open.
- Battery storage mode, in theory, makes it so the device won't power up without external power connected. *That was a lie.* The thing definitely powered up twice after I put it into battery storage mode, while popping the case off.
- Having a 2230 ssd enclosure made things much easier in that I was able to clone the drive over prior to installation. BUT! I had to hook it up to a different device and throw gparted at it so it'd use the extra space. (This isn't really the fault of any particular tool. Balena Etcher, which I used to do the copy, was not made to expand storage thereafter. It's a clone tool. That's what it does.)
All told, job's done. Moving on to the next one... after I let my fingers recover. Trying to get the case open was a pain in the ass.
