An evening walk in four parts...

We end up doing this hike every year in early spring, a great area to experience both spring & winter at the same time. Really needed to be outside again after a few busy weeks. Yesterday's weather provided the perfect opportunity, light & mood...

Another view of the same valley further down, showing the glacier's large main side moraine, also marking the last maximum extent during the Little Ice Age in the 1850s... It's hard to fathom just how much volume and ice has been lost in these past 175 years, not just in this valley... In places, this moraine is almost 200 meters tall and the valley 600 meters wide.

Photo of a high alpine post-glacial valley and surrounding mountains. The large, several kilometer long main side moraine of the glacier is visible on the other side of the valley, its lowest parts slowly overgrowing with vegetation and young forest of larches and mountain pines. Greens are creeping up the various talus fields of more ancient side glaciers. The peaks in the background still have some active ice fields. In the foreground, a small path is leading through grassy slopes into the distance towards the peaks...
