How is everyone getting on if they use #fairphone ? I am thinking of switching from Apple to this. I see the supply chain ethics are a bit better than apple etc. So I figure it's worth doing. But what OS? Would banking apps, and card payments via NFC work in LineageOS? Or do ppl use /e/OS?

I thought only FairPhone made repairable phones, but HMD does too. They don't do everything that makes FairPhone great, but they're definitely worth consideration.

One problem: only 3 years of updates. 7 years of part availability can't fix that.

Maybe @LineageOS, @e_mydata, or @postmarketOS will support it.

Fairphone babies.

In August 2023, Fairphone bought Cobalt Credits worth $12000 to cover our total cobalt consumption that year, as part of a pilot program we initiated with the Fair Cobalt Alliance.

A year and a half later, we are getting to see how that money was actually used, benefitting the Kamilombe mining community in the DRC. While we are aware that $12000 isn’t a massive sum, the impact it has had on the 5000+ miners at Kamilombe is truly encouraging to say the least.

@forteller @ueeu @DresdnerForschungswerk @murena @Fairphone Thanks! Yes, I've looked at #fairphone and #murena . Nice to see that there are options. Running android (I see fairphones can come with it preinstalled) would not be an option, but /e/OS looks interesting. How does it hold up #privacy wise compared to e.g. #GrapheneOS , #calyxos or #LineageOS ? Haven't tried any of those, just read about them. I see very polarised opinions when I search. Little balanced comparison. A plus that you can get a fairphone with /e/OS preinstalled, of course (It's me. I'm "moderately- or non-technical people").

I now have Android 15 on my Fairphone 4! Thank you, @calyxos!

People who don't flash a new OS on their Fairphone 4 (and I can't blame them, it's not fun) are still on Android 13! I don't really understand why @Fairphone spends resources developing their own tiny tweaked Android and never being able to keep it up to date, instead of collaborating with Calyx or some other OS developer who are able to get out the latest releases.

I don't think that the 48.3% of Americans who voted against trumpists last year deserve a "#BoycottUS" and I remain inspired by and in solidarity with many American artists, scientists, public workers... who are the first to suffer under the current situation.
That said, Europe needs data security and protection from GAFAM hegemony in #cyberspace
Perhaps Americans themselves are safer and more free with #GOG #DeepL #Fairphone #arduino etc.
